Mary Pyche--Artist Statement
Art is a vocation. I am transfixed by color and light and the beauty of balance and texture. When I am working, some works go beyond words and thought to another place like a dream state. I am striving to acquire a complete understanding of various forms of art and a facility with it to express my concepts. With landscape work, I am inspired by a scene and strive to share my impression of the place. It’s a wonderful feeling of accomplishment and personal satisfaction to have an idea of something or a way to interpret something and to produce or create it–-sharing the beauty of this thing–-regardless of whether it is a thought that is shared or a sight or a way of seeing.
With still-life work, I am intrigued by options of design and light and color and enjoy translating that to create a painterly impression. With abstract work, I usually have an elementary idea then allow it to grow as I go along. It is completely developmental--one thing building on another. The project feeds on itself until it is what it is.
I continue to explore many diverse visual art forms. This is exciting and I am enthused, and my Gemini nature is challenged to do several things at once. I work towards personal satisfaction, acceptance and recognition by the art community and the public.
